The Accounts page (/accounts) is where you manage all your accounts in one place.

Account types

Automatic account

Connects to your bank through open banking. Transactions and balances sync on their own.

Manual account

Created by hand, with no bank connection. Ideal for cash, foreign accounts, or unsupported banks.

Accounts with no type

Not every bank states what kind of account it is sharing. When that happens, the account shows a No type label in the list and guito does not guess: until you set the type, that account’s balance counts as cash. This matters most for a credit card. A card’s balance is what you owe, so with no type a debt adds to your net worth instead of reducing it.
1

Open the account

On the Accounts page, click the account marked No type.
2

Set the type

Under Details, click Set type and choose the account’s type.
Your choice is saved, and later syncs keep it. You don’t have to go looking for this: guito asks right after you connect your bank, and if you’d rather answer later, the reminder waits in the notifications bell until you set the type. Putting it off blocks nothing, the account keeps importing its movements.

Add an automatic bank account

In Accounts, click Add and choose your bank: you authorise read-only access in your own bank’s portal, and guito then imports your transactions and balances. The step-by-step is in connect your bank. Automatic sync is part of Plus: during the free trial you can create up to two bank connections — each connection brings in every account you authorise at that bank. For the details of authorisation and connection renewal, see bank sync.

Reconnect an expired account

When a connection expires, a notice appears at the top of the Accounts page. Click Manage and reconnect it in Connections (the Tools section of the sidebar).

Re-authorise a bank you’re already connected to

Sometimes your bank starts sharing an account it didn’t share before — a credit card, for example. That account only appears in guito once you authorise access again, even when the connection is working fine. In Connections, open the connection’s ⋯ menu and choose Re-authorise. The flow is the same as the initial connection, and the accounts you already have keep their history: guito recognises them and only adds the new ones.

Add a manual account

1

Open the Accounts page

Go to Accounts in the sidebar.
2

Add the account

Click Add.
3

Choose manual entry

In the dialog, select Add manually.
4

Fill in the details

Give the account a name (“Cash at home”, for example), choose the currency and the type — checking, savings, investment, cash or credit card — and, if you like, a bank, an icon and a colour. The starting balance is the balance at the start of the start date (today by default); movements from that day onward are added to it.If your bank isn’t on the list, choose Create custom bank and start typing the Bank name. guito searches a list of banks, brokers, crypto and stock exchanges and meal cards; pick a result and the name and logo are filled in for you. If it isn’t there, keep the name you typed. In that case the Bank domain is optional and is used to show the logo: type just the website address, such as degiro.com. A domain guito can’t read is flagged on the field itself before you save.
5

Create the account

Confirm to create the account.
Manual accounts don’t sync automatically. The balance starts from the starting balance you enter and adds the movements you record; to correct it or pin it to a given date, use a balance reconciliation. When a manual account’s balance goes 60 days without an update, a reminder appears in the notifications bell, under Updates. It goes away once you update the balance.
On the Accounts page, the By type view groups the list by each account’s type.

Connect a manual account to your bank

If you’ve been keeping an account by hand and your bank has since become available through open banking, you can connect that same account instead of creating a new one. The history you already recorded stays where it is.
1

Open the account

On the Accounts page, click the manual account you want to connect.
2

Turn on syncing

On the Automatic sync card, on the right, click Enable sync. In the app the card carries an illustration and you just tap it. The same option is in the account’s options menu.
3

Authorise at your bank

You’ll be taken to your bank. Once you authorise, you’ll come back to guito.
4

Identify the account, if asked

When your bank returns more than one account, guito asks which one matches the movements you already have. Only accounts in the same currency as yours are offered: if the bank shares none, guito tells you and nothing is connected.
You won’t get duplicate movements. The days you already have recorded aren’t imported again. If the bank dates one of your movements up to three days off, guito recognises it by its amount and doesn’t bring it in a second time. The rest of the bank’s history comes in.
If you add the bank from Add instead of Enable sync and the bank returns an account with the same IBAN as one of your manual accounts, guito connects that account: it keeps the name you gave it and doesn’t repeat the days you already recorded. An account you disconnected on purpose stays manual when you renew that bank’s authorisation; to sync it again, use Enable sync on the account itself.
If the account has no bank set yet, click Choose bank on the card: you pick the bank in the same window and go straight on to authorise access. If you typed the bank’s name by hand and that bank can now be connected, guito recognises it and doesn’t ask again. For a broker such as Trading 212 or Interactive Brokers the card does not appear: add it from Add. On an archived account the card does not appear: unarchive the account first, from the notice at the top of the account.

Add a credit card

A credit card is an account with its own type. The balance represents what you owe, so it counts as a liability (debt), not as available cash.
1

Open the Accounts page

Go to Accounts in the sidebar, click Add, then Add manually.
2

Choose the Credit card type

Under Account type, select Credit card.
3

Enter the amount owed

In the Amount owed field, enter how much you currently owe, as a positive number. guito stores it as debt.
4

Create the account

Confirm to create the card.
Once created, the card works like any account: you can record its movements and the spending shows up in cash flow. When you pay the bill from a current account, record that payment as a transfer between the two accounts. In your Net worth, the card’s balance appears in the Credits line, not in Banking, lowering your total. Because it’s a debt, the card is left out of goals allocation: it isn’t money you can set aside. Credit cards are available on all plans.
Some banks share credit cards over open banking: when yours does, the card is linked along with your other accounts and its balance updates on its own.

Credit limit

Some banks share only the available credit — how much you can still spend — rather than the amount owed. In that case, guito needs your card’s limit to work out the amount owed (limit minus available credit). The card then appears in the list labelled No limit set, showing the available credit your bank shares (for example, “€564.14 available”) where the balance would go.
1

Open the card

On the Accounts page, click the card marked No limit set.
2

Set the limit

Click Set limit, below the available credit at the top of the page (or under Details), and enter the card’s limit (you’ll find it in your bank’s app or online banking).
The balance appears on the next sync and updates on its own from then on. As with the account type, guito asks for the limit right after you connect your bank, and keeps the reminder in the notifications bell if you’d rather answer later. Until you set the limit, the card still imports its movements as usual. If you see No balance yet instead, there’s nothing to do: the movements have arrived and the balance appears as soon as the next sync finishes.

An account’s transactions

Open an account in Accounts to see its transactions. Add transaction, at the top of the page, records one in that account, and the top of the page stays in view as you scroll. On a phone, some of the buttons up there show only their icon. In the mobile app, on a manual account, Add transaction is the floating button in the corner of the account screen and of its full transaction list. Click a transaction to edit it without leaving the account. If you change its name or category, you’re offered the same change for similar transactions, just as on the transaction’s own page. To see everything about it, use Open transaction page. To handle several at once, select them, synced or manual, and choose Categorise or Exclude from cash flow; when every selected one is already excluded, the option becomes Include in cash flow. Delete only removes manual transactions: the ones from your bank stay, and you’re told how many were left out.

Add notes to an account

When you create or edit an account, write whatever you want to remember in the Notes field — the account number, for example. The note appears in the account’s Details card.

Reconcile a balance

A balance reconciliation pins an account’s balance to a specific date. From that date onward, the chart anchors to that value.
1

Open the account

Open the account in Accounts.
2

Start the reconciliation

From the (⋯) menu, choose Reconcile balance, or use the Add button in the Balance reconciliations section.
3

Set the date and amount

Choose the date and the amount, that is, the balance at the end of that day.
4

Save

Confirm to save the reconciliation.
As you type, guito shows you what that figure would produce: the balance on the chosen date, how many movements there have been since, and the resulting balance. It is there to catch the most common slip — copying the balance your bank shows today and dating it a few days back, which counts those days’ movements twice. To edit or delete a reconciliation, use the (⋯) menu on its row in the Balance reconciliations section.
Reconciliation is available on both manual and automatic accounts. On an automatic account, it lets you seed the history before the first synced date (instead of a line at €0) or correct a value inferred by guito. It is not available on Trading 212 cash accounts, where the balance comes from the broker itself.
To understand how balances and history are calculated, and which value takes priority when several land on the same date, see how balances work.

Removing data

To delete an account, open it in Accounts and choose Delete account from the (⋯) menu: the account, with all of its transactions and history, is permanently deleted and can’t be recovered. If you only want it out of sight, choose Archive in the same menu. Archiving only hides the account: a synced account keeps syncing (to stop it, use Disconnect). You can Undo right after, and an archived account shows a notice at the top with Unarchive. To permanently remove all of your data from guito, delete your account.
