# Connect Trading 212

> Connect your Trading 212 account to guito to sync positions and transactions.

Once you connect your Trading 212 account, guito automatically syncs positions, cash, dividends, deposits, and order history, which then appear alongside the rest of your net worth with no manual entry. This feature is available on the Plus plan. On the Free plan, Trading 212 still appears in the list of banks, and choosing it lets you [try Plus for 14 days](/en/account/free-trial), no card required.

<Note>
  guito has read-only access. It never places orders or moves money in your Trading 212 account.
</Note>

## Connect your account

You'll need a personal API key (a Key ID and a Key secret) generated in Trading 212. Each key covers one account (Invest or ISA).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the connections page">
    Go to **Connections** in the sidebar, or go directly to `/connections`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect Trading 212">
    Click **New connection** and, in the list of institutions, select **Trading 212**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate an API key in Trading 212">
    Follow the instructions in the dialog: in your Trading 212 account, go to **Settings > API (Beta)**, enable access, and generate a key with every read permission turned on: Account, Portfolio, History, Metadata, Orders, and Pies.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the key and confirm">
    Paste the **Key ID** and **Key secret** into the matching fields and confirm.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the import">
    guito takes you to **Investments**. Your positions appear within about a minute, with the gain shown as **Calculating** until the trade history is in, which can take a few minutes if you have a lot of history. A line at the top shows where the import stands, and guito lets you know when your history is ready.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  To connect both accounts (Invest and ISA), generate a key in each one and add two separate connections.
</Tip>

## Keep your data up to date

You don't have to do anything: guito syncs Trading 212 automatically in the background. If you open the Connections or Investments page and the last sync is more than an hour old, guito refreshes the data then and there.

<Note>
  guito imports your full Trading 212 history, not just recent activity. Trading 212 may email or notify you each time guito imports that history; these notifications are expected and come from Trading 212, not guito.
</Note>

### Pies (automatic portfolios)

Each Pie is stored as its own portfolio, named **Trading 212: \[Pie name]**. If you hold the same asset inside a Pie and outside it, you'll see two separate positions, each with its own average cost, grouped under the same ticker on the Overview page.

### Multiple currencies

If your Trading 212 account holds cash in more than one currency (for example, euros and dollars), guito treats each currency as its own cash account ("Trading 212 (USD)", "Trading 212 (GBP)"), each with its own history in the original currency and converted to euros in your totals. Currency conversions appear as a transfer between those accounts, with the fee recorded separately under Fees and charges.

### Quotes

For less common assets that guito's market-data provider does not cover, the position is valued at the current price Trading 212 reports, updated at each sync. The chart shows these assets from the day that price was first applied, usually the day you connected your Trading 212 account.

### How movements are classified

Imported movements arrive already classified: buys, sells, dividends, and interest under **Investments**, deposits and withdrawals as **Transfers**, and fees under **Fees and charges**.

## Corporate actions and special cases

  <Accordion title="Splits, stock dividends, and FOP">
    guito automatically processes stock splits and dividends paid in shares. On free-of-payment transfers (FOP), the shares arrive with a cost basis of zero, so you need to adjust the position's average cost manually.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Acquisitions">
    An acquisition (for example, one company acquiring another) appears with both legs, and guito shows a review suggestion to transfer the average cost manually.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Return of capital">
    The cash received lands in your account but isn't treated as a dividend, because it isn't income. guito suggests adjusting the position's average cost manually.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Conflicts with manual transactions">
    If you had manually recorded a buy or sell that Trading 212 now also imports, guito flags the possible duplicates in a review list on the Connections page. There you can choose, entry by entry, which ones match the same trade: the ones you confirm are replaced by the imported version, and the rest stay as separate transactions.
  </Accordion>

## Disconnect, reconnect, and update the key

In the action menu on the connection card, choose **Disconnect**. The cash account is archived and the API key is deleted. Historical transactions and positions stay visible; the Pie portfolios are archived and come back if you reconnect.

If you generate a new key in Trading 212 (or the previous one was revoked), choose **Update key** in the action menu on the connection card and paste the new key. All your history (transactions, positions, Pies) is kept. The same applies if you reconnect the same account after disconnecting: guito picks it up in its previous state, with nothing duplicated.

<Warning>
  If a sync fails (revoked key or problems at Trading 212), the connection appears in the **N connections need you** panel of the Connections page, with the reason on its row. Use **Update key** to start syncing again.
</Warning>

## Limitations

* Only real Invest and ISA accounts. Demo (paper trading) and CFD accounts are not supported.
* Only Trading 212 accounts with a EUR base currency can be connected. Within a EUR account, cash held in other currencies (USD, GBP) syncs as separate cash accounts.
* Available on the Plus plan only.
