# Cryptocurrencies

> Track your cryptocurrency holdings.

Record your cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin or Ethereum) the same way you record stocks or ETFs: enter your buys and sells, and guito works out your purchase cost, market value, and returns.

<Info>
  Cryptocurrencies are available to everyone, at no cost.
</Info>

## Add a cryptocurrency

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Investments">
    Open **Investments** in the sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Add">
    Use the **Add** button to start recording a new holding.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search for the coin">
    Search for the coin (for example, Bitcoin or Ethereum) in the same search box where you look up stocks and certificates, then select it from the results. guito quotes the most widely traded coins; if yours doesn't come up, you can still record it at the value you enter: see [Investments without automatic pricing](/en/features/manual-investments).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the pair you traded">
    When available, choose the pair you actually traded, for example, BTC/USD or BTC/EUR.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record the transaction">
    Indicate whether it was a buy or a sell and fill in the date, quantity, and unit price.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Add transaction**. The holding now appears in your investment portfolio.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Instead of recording trades one by one, you can import an exchange's history from a CSV file, using the same importer as your other investments, as long as the coin is one that guito tracks. See [Import and export data](/en/features/import-export).
</Note>

## Currency pairs and exchange rates

<Note>
  What you paid, and the value shown, reflect the currency you bought in:

  * A **EUR** pair is recorded in euros, with no conversion.
  * A **USD** pair is converted to euros at the daily exchange rate. On [Plus](/en/account/plans-and-pricing), the current value uses the current exchange rate.
</Note>

## Where they appear in your portfolio

Cryptocurrencies show up in your investment portfolio alongside stocks and ETFs. To see them on their own, switch to the **By category** view in the **⋯** menu at the top of the page: they are grouped into a **Crypto** section. They also count toward the investments line of your [net worth overview](/en/features/net-worth-overview).
