# What are AI assistants

> Connect Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants to guito to query and manage your finances through chat.

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another compatible assistant to explore your accounts, investments and net worth in guito. Ask about your holdings, spending and savings goals, or record financial information through conversation.

The connection rests on an MCP connector, an open standard that lets AI assistants talk to external apps. There is nothing to install or configure inside guito: you just paste guito's connection URL into your assistant and sign in once.

## What the assistant can do

The assistant can read your net worth, investment holdings and performance, account balances, transactions, spending categories, goals, loans, properties and recurring payments. Ask "What investments do I hold?", "How is my net worth split?" or "Where do I spend the most?" to get answers from your guito records.

You can also ask for income by source, net cash flow, month-over-month spending, investment performance, portfolio concentration or how many months of expenses your liquid balances cover. For investment performance, specify a start date. These reports describe your records and do not recommend financial products.

The assistant can also record income, expenses and investment trades you have already made, edit transactions, create manual accounts, goals, loans, properties and recurring items, or earmark money for a goal. Your assistant controls when it asks for approval, so review its write permissions. The connector never moves money, executes payments or transfers, or places investment orders. ## Which assistants work

It works with Claude (and Claude Code), ChatGPT and editors like Cursor and VS Code. The Gemini app does not yet allow custom MCP connectors. The steps for each client are on the [connect page](/en/ai/connect).

## Where the data comes from

You sign in to guito and authorise access when the assistant asks for it. From then on, the assistant can access only your own data, never your credentials. guito remains the single source of your data, synced and kept up to date as always.
