# Email notifications

> Which emails guito sends, which group each one belongs to, and how to stop the ones you don't want.

Outside guito, notifications arrive by email and, only if you allow it in the mobile app, on your phone too. Inside guito, the [notifications bell](/en/features/notifications) shows notices about your accounts while you use it. Every email belongs to one of three groups, and you choose what you receive in **Settings**, on the **General** tab, under **Notifications** (click your avatar in the sidebar). In the mobile app, the path is **Profile -> Settings -> Notifications**.

## Notification settings

The **Notifications** section has one row per topic, grouped into alerts, news and offers, and emails that are always sent. Each row has an **Email** switch and, if you use the iPhone app with phone notifications, a **Phone** switch next to it. A topic guito doesn't send on a channel has no switch there. Without a phone that receives notifications, the section explains how to get them: install the guito app on your iPhone and sign in. See [Phone notifications](/en/account/phone-notifications).

Some rows have no switch:

* **Manual accounts to update** and **Investments without automatic pricing to update** show **In the app**: they're notices in the [notifications bell](/en/features/notifications), not emails.
* **Missed payments** has an **Open Recurring** link, because you turn it on for each recurring payment.
* **Security** and **Billing and account** show **Always on**.

## Alerts

Notices about your own data. They're on by default and each one has its own switch.

| Alert | When it arrives |
| - | - |
| **Expiring bank connections** | In the last week before a bank's authorisation expires and, if you let it expire, about 3 and 14 days after. |
| **Missed payments** | When an expected recurring payment doesn't show up. |

**Missed payments** reminders have no general switch: you turn them on for each recurring payment, in **Recurring**, with the **Missed-payment reminders** option, and they're off by default. See [Recurring movements](/en/features/recurring).

Turning an alert off only stops the email. The information is still visible in guito: for example, a connection about to expire still shows up in **Connections**.

### Manual accounts and investments without automatic pricing to update

guito doesn't email you about out-of-date manual values. When a manual account's balance goes 60 days without an update, or the value of an investment without automatic pricing goes 90 days without one, a notice appears in the **Updates** section of the [notifications bell](/en/features/notifications), on the web and in the app. There's no switch to turn it off: the notice goes away once you update the balance or the value.

## News and offers

Promotional emails from guito. You can stop receiving them at any time.

| Email | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Newsletter** | Product news, a few times a year. |
| **First-week tips** | Two emails in your first days to help you get more out of guito. |
| **Offers and surveys** | Occasional offers and requests for feedback, for example after you try the Plus plan. |

The newsletter and the offers and surveys only go to people who asked for them, when creating the account or by turning on the switch in **Notifications**, in Settings. If you have or had a paid plan, you receive them until you refuse them. First-week tips are on for a new account. You can refuse any of these emails in **Notifications** or with the unsubscribe link in a promotional email. Opt-outs you already set are kept.

A newsletter edition isn't sent to accounts created in the last 3 days, so a new account doesn't get it on top of the welcome emails.

### At most 2 optional emails a week

guito sends you at most 2 optional emails in any 7 days. When you have already had 2, news and offers (the newsletter, first-week tips after the welcome email, offers and surveys) are held back and not sent. They aren't sent later either.

Alerts you keep on count toward the limit, but they're never held back: a newsletter never costs you a missed-payment alert. The expiring bank connections email and the emails in the **Always sent** group don't count.

## Always sent

Invoices and payments, security codes and new sign-in notices, and emails about your account, such as a data export or account deletion. These emails can't be turned off, because they're how guito tells you about your subscription and your account's security. In Settings, **Security** and **Billing and account** show **Always on**.

## Security codes

guito security codes have 6 digits and expire in 10 minutes. The email identifies the request the code belongs to, such as confirming signup or recovering your password. Only enter it in the request you started in guito, and never share it with anyone.

If Gmail or another email client offers a copy-code shortcut, you can use it. That shortcut depends on your email client; if it doesn't appear, select and copy all 6 digits directly. If you didn't start the request, don't use the code and follow the email's instructions.

## Emails from guito

Signup confirmation and password recovery come from **[noreply@auth.guito.pt](mailto:noreply@auth.guito.pt)**, with the sender name **guito**.

Account emails and alerts come from **[notifications@guito.pt](mailto:notifications@guito.pt)**. Invoices, payments and subscription notices come from **[billing@guito.pt](mailto:billing@guito.pt)**. First-week tips, product news, offers and surveys come from **[hello@guito.pt](mailto:hello@guito.pt)**.

You can reply to these emails, including signup confirmation and password recovery: your reply reaches the support team at **[support@guito.pt](mailto:support@guito.pt)**. The account-deletion completion notice is the exception and does not accept replies.

        On the website, click your avatar in the sidebar, open **Settings** and, on the **General** tab, scroll down to **Notifications**. In the mobile app, open **Profile -> Settings -> Notifications**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Turn off what you don't want">
        Turn off the **Email** switch for each topic you don't want to receive by email. You can turn it back on whenever you like.

    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="From the email">
    At the bottom of every optional email there are two links:

    * **Unsubscribe from these emails** opens a page that asks you to confirm. Once you click **Stop these emails**, you stop receiving that type of email. You don't need to be signed in.
    * **Manage notifications** opens your settings in guito, to choose in more detail.

    On the page from a news or offers email, you can also choose **I don't want any news or offers**. It stops the newsletter, first-week tips, offers and surveys at once. Alerts about your own data keep coming.

    After you stop an email, the page confirms it and offers two more options:

    * **Actually, keep sending them** turns back on what you just stopped. It's available for 15 minutes.
    * **Also stop:** lists the other emails you still receive, unticked. Tick the ones you don't want and click **Stop the selected emails**. To turn an email back on later, use your settings.

    If your email service shows an unsubscribe button next to the sender (as Gmail does), that button does the same as the first link.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Note>
  In a missed-payment email, **Unsubscribe from these emails** turns off reminders for that one recurring payment only. Reminders for the others stay as they are.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I need to sign out before opening a confirmation link?">
    No. You can open an authentication confirmation link while signed in. It still verifies the requested action. Never share the link or code with anyone.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I get notifications on my phone?">
    Yes, on iPhone, if you allow it. The mobile app asks for your permission before sending any notification to your phone, and never sends one without it. Each notice has a phone switch, separate from its email switch, in **Profile -> Settings -> Notifications**. See [Phone notifications](/en/account/phone-notifications).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I turned off the newsletter and still get other emails. Why?">
    Each type of email has its own switch. Turning off the newsletter doesn't turn off first-week tips, offers and surveys, or alerts. To stop those, turn off their switches too, or choose **I don't want any news or offers** on the page that opens from a news or offers email. Emails in the **Always sent** group keep arriving.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I used to get emails about manual accounts to update. Why did they stop?">
    Those reminders are no longer emails. When a manual account's balance or the value of an investment without automatic pricing goes too long without an update, the notice appears in the **Updates** section of the [notifications bell](/en/features/notifications) instead.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why didn't I get the latest newsletter?">
    If you'd already had 2 optional emails in the past 7 days, the newsletter was held back so you don't get too many emails. An account created in the 3 days before an edition doesn't get it either. Check that **Newsletter** is still on in **Notifications**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I asked to delete my account. Will I keep getting emails?">
    While the deletion request is pending, guito sends no alerts and no news and offers, and shows no notices about manual values to update. Emails in the **Always sent** group, such as the ones about the deletion request itself, keep arriving.
  </Accordion>
