# Delete your account

> The two ways to request deletion of your guito account and its data, whether or not you can sign in.

You can request deletion of your guito account at any time. There are two ways to do it, and the second one does not require you to be able to sign in.

## In the app

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings -> Security">
    Click your avatar in the sidebar, select **Settings**, and scroll down to the **Delete account** section. On mobile the path is **Profile -> Settings -> Personal info**, then **Delete account** at the bottom of the screen.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tell us why">
    Click **Delete account** and choose your reason (required). If your reason is privacy, a shortcut to export everything before deleting appears here.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Deal with your store subscription, if you have one">
    If you subscribed to the Plus plan in the App Store or Google Play, a step appears with a button that opens that store's subscriptions. In the App Store, cancel the subscription there: guito cannot cancel it for you. In Google Play, guito cancels the renewal when you request the deletion, and the button is there to check it. The step does not block the deletion: in the App Store, if renewal is still on, you only need to tick **I've turned off renewal in the App Store** to continue.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm your identity">
    Review what will be deleted and confirm with your current password or, if you sign in with Google, with a code emailed to you. In the mobile app on an iPhone, if you created your account with Apple, confirm with Apple, with no password or emailed code needed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## By email

If you cannot sign in, write to **[support@guito.app](mailto:support@guito.app)** with the subject **"Cancelamento de Conta"**, from the account's email address. We confirm your identity before deleting anything.

For a formal erasure request under the GDPR, use the subject **"Direitos RGPD"**. We reply within one month, extendable to three months in complex cases.

## What happens next

<Warning>
  There is a 7-day grace period, during which you can cancel the deletion. After 7 days, the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
</Warning>

Signing in does not cancel the request: within those 7 days you have to cancel the deletion explicitly.

While the deletion is scheduled, you cannot subscribe to the Plus plan or change plan. If you have changed your mind, cancel the deletion first.

After the 7 days, the deletion is in progress and can no longer be cancelled. If it takes longer than expected, the app shows **Deletion in progress** until it finishes; if you have questions, write to **[support@guito.app](mailto:support@guito.app)**.

### How to cancel the deletion

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sign in to the account">
    The account keeps working normally throughout the grace period.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Cancel deletion on the notice">
    On guito.app the notice sits at the top of the app. In the mobile app it sits at the top of your **home screen**. The button in the email confirming the request opens **Settings -> Security**, where you can also cancel.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The notice disappears as soon as the request is cancelled. You can also cancel on the same page where you requested the deletion: on guito.app, **Settings -> Security**; in the mobile app, **Profile -> Settings -> Personal info**, at the bottom of the screen.

If you want to keep a copy, request the export **before** deleting the account: once it is deleted, there is nothing left to export.

### What happens to your Plus subscription

It depends on where you subscribed:

* **guito.app**: the renewal is cancelled when you request the deletion, and you keep access until the account is deleted. If you cancel the deletion, the renewal comes back on, unless you had already cancelled Plus before requesting the deletion: then it stays cancelled.
* **Google Play**: guito cancels the renewal when you request the deletion, and access continues until the end of the period already paid for. If you cancel the deletion, the renewal does **not** come back on its own: reactivate it in your [Google Play subscriptions](https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions).
* **App Store**: deleting your guito account does **not** cancel the subscription, because Apple does not allow it. Cancel it in your [App Store subscriptions](https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions), or the store keeps charging the renewal.

Once the account is deleted, you can create a new account whenever you like, with the same email or another one.
